I absolutely love this laptop. I am very pleased with how easy the keyboard is to use. The size does not make too much more of a difference from a standard size laptop. I really like that I can carry this with me anywhere I go and it is easy to transport. Perfect new toy for me. This is a purchase worth making. I would suggest buying it to anyone interested. It's pretty much everything that it's advertised to be. Still getting used to the smaller keyboard, and the touch pad is fine. The mouse buttons below the touch pad are a bit difficult to use, got to hit them with some authority.
It's not loaded with much junkware (as purchased from Amazon) so most of that stuff has already been uninistalled. It comes with trial versions of McAfee and Office 2007. As well as a few other lesser programs.
HAve not yet run down the 6-cell battery but after 4 hours I still had battery left. I expect it to be close to 5 or 6 hours. I'd guess that half the unit's weight is the removable battery pack.
The only significant gripe... I like Windows XP, but the installed XP keeps hounding me to burn eight recovery disks... but obviously there's no CD burner! So I bought a USB CD/W for 35 bucks so I could install other programs. I've had this computer for a week now and it is working properly so far. The reasons why I give it 4 stars: it does not come with a recovery disk (you need an external CD/DVD burner to get it), the print manual is poor, and it does not come with a sleeve. This a great little netbook, very compact and screen is not too small. After a few weeks of using it, it wouldn't boot up. Called Acer support and had to ship it to them. It only took a week to fix. My first Aspire One A110 (8.9" screen, SSD) died from an unfortunate accident, and after looking at most of the available netbooks in June 2009, I decided to replace it with an A150. Acer must have listened to their customers and reviewers, as almost all the faults of the original model (small battery, small screen, wonky trackpad, no access to the internals without voiding the warranty) appear to have been rectified. It's surprising how much different the A150 is from its predecessor -- about the only thing that is unchanged is the keyboard -- which is one of the best, although not the largest, in this class. The 10.1" screen has the same resolution (1024 x 600) as the 8.9" screen, but the pixels are just enough bigger that readability and usability are significantly improved.

Installing Ubuntu 9.04 alongside Windows XP was a snap, and now I have the best of both worlds. Like most computers, Windows is installed with a lot of bloatware that takes up space and slows the machine down. With the extra baggage removed, Windows performance is very acceptable. Most of the time I use Ubuntu, booting into Windows only when absolutely necessary.

I would have given the A150 5 stars, but Acer does not include a recovery disc, and the machine nags you after initial setup to create one -- which is impossible unless you have an external optical drive. The recovery disc requires 2 DVDs or 8 CDs. Beg, buy or borrow an optical drive and make the recovery discs before doing anything to Windows.

We gave this a one star rating because of a Microsoft problem. Our computer came with the Outlook Express Spell Check in French only. We spent all afternoon on the phone with Acer Tech Support trying to get it changed without success. We returned it to Amazon for another but it too had the same problem. Acer Tech Support tried to recover the system two different times on two days, but both times failed. If you can live without spell check, it seems like a great little computer, but because we need spell check, it is unusable for us. First, the review above by T Orkun in the most complete review I have ever read, dont miss it. I too got a larger battery and very impressed with this netbook. I have VERY large hands and have had some trouble with the smaller keys through I have now gotten used to them. Dell had done a better job with the keyboard so I ordered a mini 10v. What a pile of junk.
I sent it back the next day. There is no comparison in quality between this acer one and the mini 10 or 10v.I believe this the best netbook for the money.My only complaint is I dont care for red color inside the netbook but its not a big deal. I bought a cheapo usb bluetooth module and it works well with my Razer mouse.
The track pad does work well despite the stiff buttons.
I bought a 320gb and replaced the standard hdd some I can dual boot xp and Ubuntu 9.04 which works perfectly.

Consumer Reports gave the Acer Aspire One high marks and that was enough for me. I an completely pleased with my selection of of this netbook. Since the keyboard is obviously not full-sized, I'm making occasional typos but I'm sure my skill level will increase over time. That's my issue not an issue with the Acer Aspire One. I purchased a Logitech wireless mouse and a Netgear wireless router. My netbook was immediately responsive to both. I also purchased a two-year extended warranty that covers accidents. This computer is an amazing value for the money! It's attractive, relatively lightweight, and great for doing the basics when you're away from your regular computer.

I prefer Windows Vista over XP and actually installed it on this machine. Vista works really well on this machine once you delete some of the unnecessary programs that are running on startup by default. The battery life does seem to diminish with Vista though. I was getting around 8 hours of computer time with XP and am now getting around 5 with Vista. Still not too shabby!

I'd like to give this computer 4.5 starts but the option isn't offered, so I'm giving it only four. My reasons for not giving 5 stars are:

1) it seems heavy for its size. I am changing this computer for a Toshiba Portege ultra-light/thin that is larger yet weighs less. The Acer must be made of heavier materials than the Toshiba, but will hopefully be better quality too (the Toshiba's plastic cover is a nightmare and has broken twice).

2) it would be great if the computer were available with Windows Vista. I had to purchase the program, which cost me extra money.

3) the cover, while attractive, shows every smudge and never looks clean. This computer may be great for law enforcement people since criminals who use it will definitely leave their fingerprints behind!

4) the keyboard is VERY small and takes some getting used to. It's way too easy to hit the touchpad and mess up whatever you're working on. I'm actually going to buy an external keyboard and mouse since this accidental touching is driving me nuts.

5) I wish it had more RAM, especially since I'm running Windows Vista on it.

I had a tough time deciding between this model and the 8.9" but must say that I'm thrilled that I chose this one. I can't imagine typing on anything smaller than this.

Overall, this is a great little machine and you can't go wrong, especially at this price! Also, it's a conversation piece - every single time I use it people comment on it, and are under the impression it must've been *very* expensive. Knowing that it was such a bah-gain makes me enjoy the machine even more! ;-)

I have had this netbook for about a week and I love it, and everyone I have shown it to wants one. As many other reviews noted, you are purchasing this for the portability not the speed. I upgraded the RAM to 2G (the Mushkin chip noted in other reviews) and the speed is acceptable. I am writing this to add some "geek" info lacking in other reviews - most users will not find the info below useful. Before making this purchase, I researched the Atom N270 ship and read it supports Hyperthreading and Virtual Machine extensions. Because it supports Hyperthreading, it appears as a "dual core" CPU in task manager and device manager; this is just a quirk of these tools and it is in fact a modern single core processor. Most computers that have chips that support the Virtual Machine extensions have a BIOS parameter enabling or disabling this feature, and usually default it to "disabled". The BIOS on this machine does not have this functionality, and it is in fact disabled and therefore unavailable to the 1% of users (like me) who would make use of this feature. I ran Windows XP in a VM (I use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007) and it worked perfectly. However when I tried to run Ubuntu in a VM, it got stuck in GRUB and would not boot. This is no big deal but it is a disappointment. I did not try the VMWare product yet.

I found a small wireless mouse is preferable to the pad, but the
pad is acceptable.

Overall I recommend this netbook.

I was skeptical about this little netbook being an actual replacement to a notebook. I was actually looking for a small laptop that came with a good docking station......which evidently is very old school and due to Monitor config options pretty pointless, but now I know.

This little guy rocks in every way. Small, but not uncomfortable. Fast, but not overly burdened with preinstalled software. Has a roomy hard drive. And best of all, it works perfectly with an external monitor,.....which for some reason is something they leave out of all the promotional information!!!!! I hooked this up to a 22" monitor and simply chose the F function monitor option and picked the third option and POOF it configured to my larger monitor and looked great! Far better then you'd expect this little guy to process graphics. Probably not for gamers, but the other 99% out there wanting something small for travel and also useful as a desktop for internet, email and light business processes your very much going to be happy with your 350.00 investment.

I bought this netbook because I did not want to wait for a Dell model and wanted this to read and type on outside in my yard/hammock. This is a good basic netbook with all you will need, but there are a few drawbacks. The keyboard is too small for a guy with big hands like me (xl gloves). When I typed on it I felt like I had big bear paws! The track pad and left/right mouse buttons are poor. The track pad's cursor turns into a swirly thing that does not work at all. The left/right buttons on the track pad need about a brick's worth of force to click !
This is a good first computer for a tween or young teen or an adult with smaller than L/XL hands that does not mind adding an external mouse (I don't like the external mouse for a simple netbook). I ended up returning to Amazon (no hassle!!) and getting the Dell netbook with a bigger keyboard and track pad that works. I bought the Acer netbook just before going on a trip.
Positives: I like the size, the unit performs well, and the battery gives lots of life.
Negatives: Biggest complaint is the touch pad. It gives the computer a mind of its own. I've accidentally deleted e-mails, and sent e-mails before their finished. I'm always afraid of deleting something important. I just can't master it. I'd say a mouse is a requirement. Maybe there is a fix, but I don't know what it is.
The other negative is more minor. The charger and cording is too bulky, and heavier than necessary. The wall cord is heavy duty and stiff. I don't usually write reviews, but I read hundreds of reviews before I purchased this computer so I felt compelled. Great little computer. Start up, and shut down is quick. Wireless internet works great, connected to my wireless signal at home and at work with no problems. Touchpad isn't the greatest but you do get used to it. I have used it for about three weeks without plugging in a mouse. Battery life is about 6 hours or more, which is great. Came with 5200mAh battery from J&R which is what is advertised. Charging takes about 2.75 hours with the netbook off. That seemed like a long time at first then I realized that is why you can get so much usage before having to recharge. Screen is bright and clear without changing any settings. Compared to the Samsung NC10-14GB this Acer has a better screen. The hard drive is huge compared to other netbooks in this price range. Upgraded RAM to 2 GB by purchasing Crucial 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300). This was probably not necessary unless you want to be able to stream tv shows and such at full screen. Since I upgraded, it hardly ever lags on full screen. I also purchased Case Logic LNEO-10 Ultraportable Neoprene Notebook Sleeve (Black) with handles. I can either tuck it into a briefcase, or suitcase or just grab it by the handles and go. Case is a little bulky if you intend to carry the power cord in the outside pocket (which I don't). I will probably purchase an external DVD drive in a couple of months for the few occasions I want to use it as a portable DVD player. I borrowed one to load software and burn the restore disks.

Prepare for fingerprints! They show everywhere on this thing. Haven't really found a good way to keep them cleaned off. I also want to say this does not replace the need for a desktop computer. It has however completely replaced my laptop.

Overall, I love this little computer and wonder what I ever did without it.

I like nearly everything about this little laptop. The keyboard is *just* big enough to touch type and the display is *just* big enough to be useful. The hard drive is nice and large and the battery life (the most important aspect to me) is great. The processor can keep up with all I've asked of it. I'm a fan.
